The Brandenau (also "Brandenbach") is a remote part of the market town of Taxenbach in the Zell am See district in the Salzburg region . The place is located at 1,000 meters above sea level in a small side valley of the Pinzgau Salzach Valley and has around 23 inhabitants.
The Brandenau can be reached via a public goods road, the end of which in the snow-free months serves as a starting point for numerous hikers to climb the Hundstein summit at 2,117 meters .
The name "Brandenau" goes back to the charcoal production that was operated in the past. In 2009 there are three farms, including a wild farm. Tourists occasionally stay in privately rented rooms.
