Brazeau ( pronunciation: / bræzɔː / ) is an unincorporated community in Brazeau Township of Perry County in the state of Missouri of the United States . Brazeau has approximately 20 residents and is the oldest settlement in Perry County.

Brazeau is located in southeast Missouri, about 20 kilometers southeast of Perryville , 35 kilometers north of Cape Girardeau and 120 kilometers south-southeast of St. Louis . The Mississippi River is near Brazeau.
history
The first settlers in the area of Brazeau were Presbyterian settlers of English and Scottish descent who came to Missouri from North Carolina in 1817 and established several settlements there, one of which was Brazeau. The place was named after the Brazeau Creek flowing through it . On September 2, 1819, The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Brazeau was founded in Brazeau and the first church was built. Until January 1, 1820 the place belonged to the Ste. Genevieve County , then Perry County was formed from the part to which Brazeau also belongs.
In 1832 the first church in Brazeau was destroyed in a fire and the following year a new church was built. In 1839, settlers from the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg came to Brazeau and founded several villages in the area, such as Frohna and Altenburg . In 1854 the church of Brazeau was replaced by a new brick building that is still in use today. In 1879 the place received a post office of the United States Postal Service . At weddings the village had a general store, bank, blacksmith shop and school.
In 1944 the Brazeau Hall , a meeting place for the village community, was built. The Hemmann Winery has been housed in the building of the former general store since 2003 . The post office in Brazeau was closed in 2011.
Infrastructure
Brazeau is approximately 14 kilometers east of US Highway 61 , which connects the town with St. Louis and Jackson , Missouri. About 20 kilometers southwest of the village there is a connection to Interstate Highway 55 to St. Louis.
