The Brechhorn is a 2032  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps , Austria . It lies between the valleys of the Aschauer Ache and the Windau .

Use of the mountain

The upper slopes of the mountain are only moderately used agriculturally as grazing grounds for sheep, goats, cows and horses. From the Brechhornhaus ( 1660  m ) there are no other ski or material lifts or drivable roads leading up to the mountain and allow a largely natural view during the ascent.

Mountain climbing

Starting points for the ascent are mainly Aschau - a district of Kirchberg - and Westendorf . The paths are all marked and signposted in parts.

Come to Westendorf via the Alpenrosenbahn on Nachtsöllberg to 1760  m high altitude Talkaser and can from there quickly via two routes (east and west around the Fleiding ) the Brechhornhaus reach. This is located on the Kreuzjoch between Gampenkogel and Brechhorn and is a good starting point for the further ascent.

In winter the mountain is particularly popular for ski tours and snowshoeing . Here it is mostly climbed from Kirchberg iT and Aschau. Under normal winter conditions, the road is cleared to the parking lot at the beginning of the toll road. This route leads on the eastern flank of the mountain over the Ebenaualm, Durachalm, Duracher Kogel ( 1773  m ) and Breitlabalm. The summit can be reached in 2:50 hours.

Connection to the flea

From the summit of the Brechhorn the summit of the Floch ( 2057  m ) can be reached in a southerly direction via a short, unmarked descent and renewed ascent . The descent into the Windau Valley is also possible via this route, whereby the path runs over the western flank of the mountain and through the cirque between Brechhorn and Floch. From the Brandeggalm a road leads to the Höhenweg am Fleiding. The descent from the Brechhorn in a southerly direction is only recommended for sure-footed hikers who do not suffer from vertigo.

summit

The summit is provided with a summit cross construction made of wood and steel, on which a stamp and a summit book can be found.

In a northerly direction, the peaks of the Hohe Salve , the Nachtsöllberg, the Fleidings and the Gampenkogel provide a beautiful view of the group of high 1,000-meter peaks. In a southerly direction you can see the Windau valley and the ridge line of the Kitzbühel Alps, which includes the Kröndlhorn ( 2444  m ) and Salzachgeier ( 2466  m ). Above all, however, the imposing and rugged flank of the Großer Rettenstein ( 2366  m ) opens up in the southeast of the Brechhorn .
