The Breitbach is a 2.5 km long, west-southwest and orographically left tributary of the Mühlenbach in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district in the area of ​​the municipality of Bornheim .

The Breitbach rises on the western outskirts of Merten -Trippelsdorf at an altitude of 139  m above sea level. NHN in the foothills on the edge of the NSG Trippelsdorfer Bachtälchen .

Flowing primarily in easterly directions, the brook first flows through Merten-Trippelsdorf, before flowing west of Sechtem at 68  m above sea level. NHN flows into the Mühlenbach on the left.

From the height difference of about 71 meters, an average bed slope of 28 ‰ is calculated.

Catchment area

The Breitbach has a catchment area of 2.6 km² which it drains to the North Sea via Mühlenbach, Dickopsbach and Rhine .

In the west of the catchment area, forests, settlements and landscape areas alternate. Settlements dominate the central area and fields and arable land in the east.

Geology and soil types

The source area is covered by terraces made of sand and gravel and z. T. silty rocks shaped by the Cenozoic . Glauconite sandstones with gravel, silt and mica-containing clay from the Paleogene dominate the upper reaches . In the estuary, loess and sand loess occur with silty to fine sand rocks from the Pleistocene .

The rock is covered by Pararendzina soils in the source area and on the upper course, as well as parabroun earths on the lower course and in the mouth area.
