Brent is an American city in Bibb County , Alabama . At the 2010 census, Brent had 4,947 inhabitants.

Brent is located in central Alabama in the southern United States.
Nearby places include Centerville (immediately to the east), West Blocton (14 km north), Vance (18 km north), Montevallo (27 km north-east) and Coaling (27 km north-west). The next larger city is Birmingham, about 53 kilometers to the northeast, with 212,000 inhabitants .
history
The city was founded near a route on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad . It was designed by the engineer Brent Armstrong. The city received its own train station as early as 1903 and at that time had a sawmill.
In 1973 the city was 90% destroyed by a tornado, five residents died. In 2011 a severe storm claimed another fatality.

The north of the city is crossed on a joint route by US Highway 82 and Alabama State Route 6 , both of which provide a connection to Interstate 20 and Interstate 59 about 40 kilometers to the northwest . There is a connection to Interstate 65 in the southeast .
About 42 kilometers to the northeast is the Bessemer Airport , 48 kilometers northwest of the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport and 73 kilometers northeast of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport .
Demographics
Brent had 4,024 residents, 1,150 households and 779 families at the 2000 census . 48.93% of the population were white and 50.02% were African-Americans. 21.1% of the population were under 18 years old and 9.2% were older than 65 years. The median age was 34 years. The average income was 11,044 US dollars . 41.6% of the population was below the poverty line.
By the 2010 census , the population rose to 4,947.
