biography

Brian Davison was born in 1942 to Bella and Jack Davison's second child. He was introduced to drumming through his uncle George Davison, a jazz drummer. His older brother Terry taught him to play. Davison then played in various skiffle groups. After finishing school, he initially became an expat for the London Evening Standard , but continued to play drums in his spare time.

In 1962, Davison joined the Mark Leeman Five , which were managed by Ken Pitt . There he earned his nickname "Blinky". After a single was released in 1965, singer Mark Leeman died in a car accident. Nevertheless, the band tried to continue with the new singer Roger Peacock , but after a year the group finally broke up.

Davison then played in the bands The Habits , Mike Cotton Sound and The Attack . After David O'List left the soul group The Attack to form The Nice with Keith Emerson and Lee Jackson , Davison also joined the newly formed group. After five albums, the band finally broke up in 1970. Davison then formed Every Which Way with singer Graham Bell . After the rather unsuccessful, self-titled debut album , the band broke up again. The reasons for this were to be found in differences with the record company and the resulting internal disputes.

Together with his old companions Lee Jackson and Patrick Moraz , he founded Refugee in 1973 . Her only album was released in 1974, after which Moraz migrated to Yes . The band broke up, and Davison joined Gong for a relatively short time . After he got serious drinking problems and his marriage failed, he retired from the music business.

In the 1980s he moved with his new partner Teri West from London to Devon , where he taught drums and percussion at a college in Bideford . He finally got his alcoholic illness under control when he joined Alcoholics Anonymous in 1988 .

In 2002 he participated in a brief reunion of The Nice. On April 15, 2008, the drummer died of a brain tumor .
