Brian Devening (born July 16, 1967 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

Devening was the 1983 national U16 hard court champion and studied at Southern Methodist University between 1985 and 1989 . In 1990 he became a professional tennis player and initially played in satellite tournaments and the ATP Challenger Tour . On the ATP World Tour he only had notable successes as a double player. In 1993 he made it to the double finals of the Swedish Open and Santiago . Other notable results were semi-finals in Prague and Tel Aviv in 1992, as well as in Mexico City and Rosmalen in 1994. On the ATP Challenger Tour he won the double title in Singapore in 1994 . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1990 with position 277 in singles and in 1994 with position 77 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of the French Open in 1993 by defeating Frédéric Fontang . In the doubles competition he reached the side of Greg Van Emburgh in 1994 the second round of Wimbledon by defeating Darren Cahill and John Fitzgerald .
