Brian Floody

Brian Floody (born December 14, 1971 in New York City ) is an American modern jazz musician ( drums , timpani ) .

Live and act

Floody grew up in Brooklyn; in his youth he took lessons from John Beck at the Eastman School of Music . In 1989 he enrolled at the New School and studied a. a. with Jimmy Cobb and Vernel Fournier . From 1993 he worked with musicians such as Howard Alden , Eric Alexander , Junior Mance , Brad Mehldau , David Fathead Newman , Frank Wess , the Glenn Miller Orchestra ( Ghost Band ) and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. He was also the accompanist for the singers John Boutté , Lea DeLaria , Dena DeRose , Norah Jones , Irene Reid , Diane Schuur and Marlena Shaw .

Floody has also taught at Emory University , Adirondack Summer Camp, University of Miami , Western Michigan University, and LaGuardia High School in New York. He currently serves on the faculty of the Brooklyn Conservatory and Swett Arts Academy in the Bronx. In the field of jazz he was involved in eleven recording sessions between 1998 and 2015. a. with Spike Wilner , Ian Hendrickson-Smith , Alex Levin, Alex Graham, Alberto Pibiri, Adrienne Fenemor and Brigitte Zarie. He is currently a member of the Alex Norris Quintet and the George Papageorge Trio.
