Lea DeLaria
Lea DeLaria (born May 23, 1958 in Belleville , Illinois ) is an American stand-up comedian , jazz musician (singer) and Broadway actress.
Career
DeLaria has made her homosexuality the subject of her comedic appearances (as That Fucking Dyke and a member of Dos Lesbos ) since her career began in the 1980s . From 1993 she was the first gay stand-up comedian in late-night talk shows ( The Arsenio Hall Talkshow ) on stage. In 1994 the CD Bulldyke appeared in a China Shop and in 1997 Box Lunch with its comedic numbers.
1998 she starred in the Off-Broadway production of The most fabulous story ever told by Paul Rudnick , a gay version of the Bible, 1998 Broadway revival of On the Town (as Hildy Esterhazy) and 2000 in the Broadway production of Rocky Horror Picture Show (as Dr. Scott and Eddie). She also starred in several feature films as Edge of Seventeen by David Moreton (1998) and The First Wives Club (1996) and in TV soap operas (such as One Life to Live , they also had two appearances on Friends ).
Her father Robert DeLaria was a jazz pianist and she always tried to include jazz music in her comedy performances. As a singer, she released the jazz albums Play it Cool (Warner 2001), Double Standards (Telarc 2005), The Very Best of Lea DeLaria (Rhino / WEA 2006), Lea DeLaria - The Live Smoke Sessions (Ghostlike Records 2008).
In 2008 she toured Australia.
DeLaria has been a member of the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black since season one . Her supporting role "Carrie" Big Boo "Black" was upgraded to the leading role in 2015.
Private
DeLaria dated fashion editor Chelsea Fairless for four years. The couple got engaged in February 2015, but announced their separation in January 2017.
