Bricquebec is a village and a former French commune with 4,047 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Manche department in the Normandy region . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Cherbourg and the Canton of Bricquebec . The inhabitants call themselves Bricquebétais.
With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Bricquebec , Les Perques , Quettetot , Saint-Martin-le-Hébert , Le Valdécie and Le Vrétot were merged into a commune nouvelle with the name Bricquebec-en-Cotentin and have become the new municipality the status of a Commune déléguée . The administrative headquarters are in Bricquebec.
Toponymy
Bricquebec is made up of brekka (Scandinavian hill ) and bekkr (Scandinavian brook , cf. German brook).
Geographical location
The place is located in the center of the Cotentin peninsula , about 20 km from the north, 15 km from the west and 25 km from the east coast of the peninsula.
The main road connections with Cherbourg are in the north and with Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte in the south (D900), as well as with Valognes in the east and Barneville-Carteret in the southwest (D902).
