assignment

The order of the 6th PzGrenDiv (filled with mob reservists to 28,000 manpower) under the orders of Commander Klaus-Christoph Steinkopff and the DK-Jutland Division was to counter and prevent an amphibious landing of the Warsaw Pact on the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic coast that enemy forces could penetrate to the North Sea and thus cut off NATO's maritime supply routes to West Germany. To this end, the attacking forces ORANGE fought against the defenders BLUE. Another aspect was the assumption that the Warsaw Pact could possibly destroy the Elbe crossings at Lauenburg / Elbe , Geesthacht and Hamburg with a nuclear strike. These considerations were taken into account in Brisk Fray's order book. The first and introductory phase of the exercise was a command post exercise (at the level of the division and brigade command posts of the units involved) without troops. Steinkopff also developed the multi-part concept of the plan, framework and combat exercise "Sharp Shot" . The aim of this exercise was often general knowledge, for example for the battalion commander, in order to collect empirical values on how long it takes for his unit to “completely dig in” .
