Bronze turkey
The bronze turkey is one of the heavy colors of the German turkey . It has black plumage with a strong bronze sheen. Their ancestors came to Germany from America via Spain and England in 1533.
The acquisition of a rooster from England in 1909 had a lasting impact on breeding in Germany. In 2008 she was Endangered Livestock Breed of the Year . In 1997 there were only 334 copies of this color in Germany. There are currently around 800 copies.
The bronze turkey is tough. The meat is tender. The males reach a weight of 12 to 15 kg, the females a weight of 6 to 8 kg. The females lay 20 to 50 eggs per year weighing around 70 g, sometimes in 2 clutches . The rooster also often takes on a hatchery business . The breeding season usually lasts 28 days.
