Linen sheep
The linen sheep is a German domestic sheep breed . Originally it belonged more to the country sheep breeds. Due to the breeding of the related new type of linen sheep, it is now known as meat sheep .
It is located in the area of origin in south Lower Saxony , west Thuringia and north Hesse in Eichsfeld . Originally it was spread in the Hildesheim area. After the Second World War, however, it was displaced in the old Federal Republic of Germany when it was reared to line sheep in a new direction. The breeding took place by crossing with Texel and East Frisian milk sheep .
The current stock of herdbook animals is considered to be extremely endangered with 600 animals. The linseed sheep was declared "Endangered Livestock Breed of the Year" 2013 by the Society for the Conservation of Old and Endangered Domestic Animal Breeds (GEH).
