The Grötzingen quarry forest is part of the rupture lowlands of the Kinzig-Murg-Rinne in Karlsruhe . It forms a 46.9 hectare (according to other sources 39 hectare) landscape protection area .
Location and characteristics
The area between the Karlsruhe-Bruchsal railway line (part of the Baden main line ) and Bundesstraße 3 borders and rounds off the Weingartener Moor nature reserve . It includes the southern part of the Grötzinger Baggersee with a bathing facility and a fishing shelter (the northern part is in the nature reserve) and the forest areas with old alders and ash trees in the south and south-west. A hiking trail leads around the quarry pond. The water quality of the quarry pond is described as critical because of the extensive oxygen-free deep water zone in summer.
Toponymy and History
The name of the landscape protection area is made up of the designation Bruchwald (permanently wet, temporarily flooded, swampy forest) and the place name Grötzingen , an eastern district incorporated in 1974.
Landscape protection has existed since January 8, 1962.
