Bruno Bauer (electrical engineer)

Bruno Bauer (born February 27, 1887 in Töss , today a district of the city of Winterthur ; † October 21, 1972 in Zurich ), authorized to reside in Rüti ZH , in Zurich since 1901, was a Swiss electrical engineer and university professor .

Life

Family and education

Born in Töss, grew up in Zurich Bruno Bauer, the son of machinery engineer Joseph Ludwig Bauer and his wife Berta born Zollinger, the Swiss turned to Erlangen maturity in the years 1905 to 1911 the electrical engineering degree at the Federal Polytechnic Zurich to 1915 he acquired there the academic degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences ( Dr. sc. techn. ).

Professional background

Bruno Bauer, who has held leading positions at the Swiss power transmission AG, based in Bern , and Aluminum-Industrie AG since 1920 . in 1927 followed a call to the full professorship for applied electrical engineering at the ETH Zurich, expanding a professorship to the Institute for Electrical Systems and Energy Management, in 1957 he retired .

Bruno Bauer, who played a key role in shaping the Swiss electricity industry, was involved in cogeneration at an early stage , including in 1930 the ETH district heating plant, of which he was in charge until 1957. He is one of the first to deal with the use of atomic energy.

Bruno Bauer's scientific estate is in the ETH Zurich library .
