Bruno of Salomon
Bruno von Salomon (born February 7, 1900 in Stettin ; † June 8, 1952 in Hamburg ) was a German journalist, political activist ( KPD ), Spain fighter and member of the French Resistance . The older brother of the writer Ernst von Salomon was, along with Claus Heim, the intellectual head of the bombers in the Schleswig-Holstein rural people's movement .
Bruno von Salomon had taken part in the First World War as an officer , then worked in a Hamburg wool combing factory and then became editor of the weekly newspaper Die deutsche Front in Hamburg-Blankenese . From March 1, 1929 he was chief editor (editor-in-chief) of the agitation paper Das Landvolk , which first appeared weekly in Itzehoe , then daily, but was dismissed at the instigation of Wilhelm Hamkens in the autumn of the same year. In the bomber trials of 1930 he was acquitted for lack of evidence.
Together with Bodo Uhse , who was editor-in-chief of the National Socialist Schleswig-Holstein daily newspaper , which also appeared in Itzehoe, Salomon finally oriented himself towards the communist peasant movement and joined the KPD. In 1933/35 he emigrated to France via Saarland and was involved in the Popular Front movement in Paris with Uhse . Later he went to Spain and fought in the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War on the side of the Republic . After returning to France, he joined the communist wing of the Resistance.
In his last years he lived poor and ill in Paris until his brother Ernst took him to Hamburg in 1951, where he died in 1952 in the Barmbek hospital .
He was married to Doris von Schönthan .
