Brunswick is a city in Frederick County in the US state of Maryland . According to the last population census (2000), the city had 4894 inhabitants.
geography
Brunswick is located in southwest Frederick County and only about 50 km downriver from Washington, DC. The city has an area of 5.5 km², of which 0.1 km² is water.
history
Founded along the now closed Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Canal, the city later became a hub for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Railroad Company. This built a six-mile long railway line along the Potomac in the years 1897 to 1912 . As a result of the construction, the population of Brunswick quickly rose to over 5,000, and the city was transformed into a "company town" in which most of the buildings and shops were owned by the railway company. The station is now primarily a commuter station for the city of Washington, DC and also serves as the Brunswick Railroad Museum, which shows the history of Brunswick and the importance of the railroad for the city.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 United States Census Bureau Census , the city had 4,894 residents, 1,866 households, and 1,306 families who resided in the city. The population density was 895.5 people / km². The racial the population was composed of 92.09% White, 5.31% African American , 0.25% Native American , 0.45% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 0.18% Other Ethnicity, and 1, 68% mixed race . 0.96% are Latinos of various origins.
Of the 1,866 households, 36.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.4% were married couples living together. 14.40% were single mothers, 30.0% were non-families. 23.7% of all households were single households and 10.6% had people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.11.

Events
The largest city-wide event is the Railway Days in October. There is also a Veterans Day parade, a "Films in the Park" campaign, the Little League opening game and several other municipal and museum events every year. There are also regular live performances on Fridays and Saturdays.
