Brwinów is a city in Poland in the Masovian Voivodeship with about 11,800 inhabitants. The city is also the seat of the urban and rural municipality of the same name .

Geographical location

The place is about 20 kilometers southwest of the center of Warsaw .

history

The first written mention of the place as Brwinowo comes from the year 1406. In 1423 a parish is mentioned, which is one of the oldest in Mazovia. The associated church is dedicated to St. Florian ( św. Florian ). At the beginning of the 18th century, the place received city rights, but lost it again in 1831. On June 14, 1845, a train ran for the first time on the Warsaw - Vienna route. In 1910 the Brwinów Volunteer Fire Brigade was established. From 1927 to 1937 the wooden church was replaced by a brick one. On September 1, 1939, the city was bombed by the German Air Force . On September 12, 1939 there was a battle between the Wehrmacht and the 36th Grenadier Regiment near the city . The German occupation ended on January 17, 1945. In 1950 the place received city ​​rights .

From 1975 to 1998 the municipality was part of the Warsaw Voivodeship .
