Bryan Douglas "Doug" Brown (born October 20, 1948 in Fort Meade ) is a former general in the US Army and was the commander of the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) from 2003 to 2007 .

Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Cameron University and a Masters in business administration from Webster University . He graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College and the US Army War College .

He signed up for the US Army in 1967 and was used as a private in the infantry . After completing the US Army Airborne School and US Army Special Forces qualification course , he served on an "A-Team" of Command at Fort Bragg , North Carolina .

As a general, he served as the assistant division commander for maneuvering duties in the 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized) in Fort Riley , Kansas . Other posts included director of planning, guidelines and strategic evaluation (J5 / J7) of the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), commanding general of the US Joint Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base and the US Army Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg and as deputy commander of USSOCOM at MacDill AFB. After he had commanded USSOCOM since September 2, 2003 , he handed over command to Admiral Eric T. Olson on July 9, 2007, and retired.

He had combat missions during the Vietnam War , Operation Urgent Fury and Operations Desert Storm / Shield .
