Buarcos e São Julião , is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Figueira da Foz in western Portugal .

18,454 inhabitants live in the municipality on an area of ​​15.53 km² (as of 2011 figures).

history

In the run-up to the regional reform in Portugal on September 29, 2013 , the inner-city municipality of São Julião da Figueira da Foz was affiliated to the municipality of Buarcos in a controversial decision .

By law of August 10, 2015, the official name of the municipality of Buarcos was changed to Buarcos e São Julião.

De facto , Buarco remained the seat of the municipality, but the new municipality name indicates an equal merger of the two municipalities within the meaning of the 2013 municipal reform. This took account of the resentment that had existed among the townspeople since the actual township of Figueira da Foz was incorporated into the municipality of the neighboring town of Buarcos.
