Alhadas is a municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the district ( concelho ) of Figueira da Foz .
history
The traces of human settlement found here ( Dólmen das Carniçosas ) lead back to the Neolithic Age .
Today's place has a number of Moorish legacies, but it was not until the 12th century that the place was first clearly documented as Vila de Alhadas .
In 1514 Alhadas received city rights ("Foral") by King Manuel I , and formed an independent circle. Later Alhadas belonged to the district of Maiorca , with whose dissolution and affiliation to the district of Figueira da Foz also Alhadas came to the district of Figueira in 1853.
In 1989 the place was raised to Vila (small town).
Culture, sports and sights
A number of cultural associations and social institutions offer a variety of activities, including the Sociedade Boa União Alhadense with its building in Alhadas, built in 1854. There are also two folk dance groups ( Rancho Folclórico ), several orchestras and a brass orchestra, and with the Ateneu Alhadense , built in 1924, there is also an amateur theater with its own building.
With the Dólmen das Carniçosas an important site of the megalithic culture is located on the Rota Megalitismo, which leads as a thematic circular route through the municipality.
economy
In addition to smaller companies in wood and metal processing, construction, bakery, pyrotechnics , ceramics and trade, agriculture is still practiced and sand is mined, despite its dwindling importance. Tourism slowly begins to gain importance with rural tourism .
