Ferreira-a-Nova is a municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the district ( concelho ) of Figueira da Foz .

history

The community formerly known as Santa Eulália de Ferreira-a-Nova belonged to the Santa Cruz Monastery in Coimbra since the 12th century . After it later belonged to the district of Alhadas , it was incorporated into the district of Maiorca , until it was dissolved in 1853 and incorporated into the district of Figueira da Foz.

The town, which is a bit remote in the north of the district, has been trying to counteract the decline in its population since 2012 with a premium of 250 euros for each newborn.

Culture, sports and sights

The Lagoa das Queridas is a tranquil lake in the municipality that is suitable for swimming.

Since 1861, a large market has been held in Ferreira-a-Nova every 3rd of the month, one of the largest in the coastal area of ​​the Centro Region .

One of the few buildings in the community that can be visited is the community church, which was probably originally built by the crusaders, rebuilt in the 16th century and rebuilt in the 17th and 19th centuries.
