history

The Buenos Aires scene developed in the late 1980s. In the beginning, BAHC musicians often mixed elements of punk and metal , sometimes hip-hop elements were also found in the music of the bands. According to Matthias Leuschner, author of Worldwide Hardcore , the group Massacre Palestina is the first band in Argentina to play hardcore punk . The first bands that belonged to Buenos Aires Hardcore are or were Fun People and No Demuestra Interes, but the former integrated reggae, pop and rock into their sound with their second album and have since disbanded apart from occasional reunion concerts. The most important representatives of Buenos Aires Hardcore include the bands Minoría Activa , Otra Salida , Enferma Sociedad , Diferentes Actitudes Juveniles , Existencia de Odio and Eco Violento .

The Argentinean hardcore scene, especially in Buenos Aires, experienced an upswing in the 1990s. Concerts were sometimes played in front of more than 1,000 visitors. The band No Demuestras Interés has been one of the pioneering bands of the second wave of Argentinian hardcore since their LP was released in 1991 via Frost Records ; other bands of this time are Diferentes Actitudes Juveniles and Buscando Otra Diversiòn . The scene also experienced its first break-ins in the 1990s. The scene began to divide with the group Confort Supremo , who were the first band in the country to try to convey the values of the straight-edge way of life. In the mid-1990s, hardcore made the leap from the capital to other cities in the country. However, the scene in Buenos Aires is the only hardcore movement still active today, after other scenes in the country split up in the wake of militarization and the rise of racism . Bands such as Nueva Ética, El Eterno Enemigo, Reminder, Dar la Vida, Las Palabras Queman, Orientacion, Discarne, El Camino Mas Dificil and Enquirer, which describe the third wave of Buenos Aires Hardcore, are not only nationally successful, but enjoy themselves partly also better known in Europe and Japan .

Some of today's BAHC bands represent the straight-edge lifestyle and deal with its themes in their lyrics. In an interview with the band Reconcile it was said that straight edge hardcore bands from all over South America were finding more and more fans in Europe, such as the band Nueva Ética , which was founded in 1998 and which meanwhile was under contract with Alveran Records and has already played several times in Europe was seen. Labels that shape the scene today are Vegan Records , Waking the Dead Records and Varsity Records, founded in 2005 . The latter published several fanzines and organized the Varsity Fest . The scene in Buenos Aires is strongly linked to scenes in the neighboring countries of Brazil , Chile and Colombia .

In 2008 a documentary was released under the title Buenos Aires Hardcore Punk , which dealt with the hardcore punk scene in Buenos Aires .
