The place was first mentioned in a document in 893 in the Prümer Urbar , the property register of the Prüm monastery.
The Roman Catholic branch chapel of St. Bartholomew dates from 1868 and 1869.

Buir is located on state road 194 between Nettersheim- Holzmülheim and Nettersheim- Tondorf , 4 km from the Blankenheim motorway junction of federal motorway 1 . Buir can be reached by bus from Nettersheim train station.
The geologically interesting Buirer Ley is located near Buir .
On July 1, 1969, Buir was incorporated into Nettersheim.
