Bujor Almăşan

Bujor Almăşan (born June 23, 1924 in Deva , Hunedoara district ; † May 29, 1998 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian politician of the Romanian Communist Party PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who was among other things Minister for Mining and Electrical Energy from 1961 to 1965 Minister of Mines from 1965 to 1971 and Minister of Mining, Petroleum and Geology from 1971 to 1977.

Life

Almăşan attended high school in Deva from 1933 to 1943 and then began studying in 1943 at the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy of the Bucharest Polytechnic Institute (Institutul Politehnic din Bucureşti) . During his studies he joined the then youth association UTM (Uniunea Tineretului Muncitor) on August 23, 1944 and in September 1945 the Romanian Communist Party PCdR (Partidul Comunist din România) founded on May 8, 1921 . From 1946 to 1948 he completed his studies at the Mining Institute in Leningrad as a mining engineer and then stayed in the Soviet Union until 1952 , where he obtained a doctorate in mining science .

After his return to Romania, Almăşan became director of research and teaching at the coal institute in Petroşani in January 1952 and also took over a professorship at the University of Bucharest , where he became the holder of the chair of mineralogy . On December 28, 1955, he became a candidate for the Central Committee of the Seventh Party of the PMR . In addition, he was on April 24, 1958 Secretary General of the Ministry of Heavy Industry. At the 8th Party Congress on June 25, 1960, he finally became a member of the Central Committee of the PMR and belonged to this until the XII. PCR party conference on November 23, 1979 .

Almăşan then took over on March 21, 1961 in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Ion Gheorghe Maurer, the office of Minister for Mining and Electrical Energy (Ministrul minelor și energiei electrice) , which he held until August 21, 1965. He then became Minister of Mining (Ministrul Minelor) on August 21, 1965 , which was renamed the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology (Ministrul industriei miniere și geologiei) on March 18, 1970 . In 1969 he also became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) and was a member of this until 1980. After the amalgamation of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology with the Ministry of Oil on April 1, 1971 to form the Ministry of Mining, Petroleum and Geology, he was finally Minister of Mining, Petroleum and Geology from April 1, 1971 to January 25, 1977 (Ministrul minelor, petrolului și geologiei) . During his tenure as minister, on October 30, 1971, the breach of the Certej dam caused an accident in the sedimentation basin of the mine in Certeju de Sus , in which up to 89 people died. The government officially announced the number of deaths as only 48 casualties to avoid a national day of mourning.

His last position was between January 27, 1977 and February 27, 1978, as State Secretary and Head of the Department for International Economic Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and International Economic Cooperation. Although he had already been dismissed as Minister for Mining, Petroleum and Geology on January 25, 1977, he was accepted at the Central Committee plenum on August 26 and 27, 1977 because of his responsibility for the strike of the miners in the Schiltal from August 1 to 3, 1977 Reprimanded October 1977.

For his services Almăşan was awarded the Ordinul Muncii (Order of Labor) First Class (1964).
