The so-called Bundesbüdchen is a monument under monument protection standing oval stand , located in the former government and now the Federal District in Bonn is. From 1957, the kiosk was located between the Federal Chancellery , Federal Council and Bundestag . It had to be dismantled in 2006 and was re-erected in May 2020 near its original location on the corner of Heussallee and Platz der United Nations .

history

After the establishment of the area between the Bundeshaus (seat of the Bundestag and Bundesrat) and Palais Schaumburg (seat of the Federal Chancellery) from 1949 as a parliamentary and government district and the associated growing number of employees, it was built in 1957 on what was then Görresstrasse (today Platz der Vereinten Nations; (location) ) a sales pavilion. The kiosk was run by the second generation of the Rausch family without interruption until 2006. Regular customers included numerous top politicians, members of parliament and journalists from all over the world. Friedrich Nowottny sold after a lost “ Wetten, dass ..? “-Wet sausages in the federal booth for a good cause, one of them to Loki Schmidt , wife of the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt . Herbert Wehner and Franz Josef Strauss also ate sausages at the booth, Helmut Kohl had his driver fetch bread and Joschka Fischer bought Asterix books.

In October 2006 the Bundesbüdchen had to give way to the planned new World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB) of the US investor SMI Hyundai. It was completely loaded onto a low-loader and transported to Hersel . It was stored there in a building yard. The location of the later restoration was the subject of discussion; the House of History or a square near the original location were considered . In 2013, the city of Bonn announced that the kiosk at the WCCB should be re-erected near the original location. The installation should take place after completion of the renovation of the inner and outer walls by April 2014, at the same time the kiosk will be transferred from the property of the operator to that of the city.

However, this plan was not adhered to and the federal booth was not rebuilt for the time being. According to the current plans, it should be set up at the place where Jürgen Rausch has been serving temporarily in his wooden house for 8 years. On December 22, 2013, representatives of the German Foundation for Monument Protection presented Jürgen Rausch with the contract, which promises funding of 60,000 euros.

On September 4, 2015, the “Förderverein Historischer Vertriebsspavillon Görresstraße e. V. Bonn ”was founded, which pursued the charitable purpose of re-erecting the Bundesbüdchen in 2016, renovating and operating it.

Preparatory work for the re-erection of the federal hut (May 2020)

In February 2018, the Cologne district government granted the friends' association a grant of 135,000 euros for the reconstruction of the sales pavilion; the building permit was granted on April 26, 2018. On May 17, 2020, the kiosk was set up on the corner of Heussallee / Platz der United Nations (address: Heussallee 13). The construction was delayed by more than a year because the costs for the preparation of the property, half of which were to be paid by the city of Bonn and the other half by the NRW Foundation , had increased considerably. The opening is planned for late summer 2020 after the pavilion has been renovated (as of May 2020).

architecture

The building, with a basement, was a single storey building on a longitudinal oval floor plan. Above the tiled parapet cornice, the building was enclosed by a high, circumferential ribbon of windows with partially convex glazing. The projecting all-round window sill also functioned as a counter. The pavilion was rounded off by a flat roof that swung outwards and followed the design. The curved architecture with its strong windows and light roofing combines many stylistic features of the 1950s and is at the same time a typical building of a time in which such buildings as newspaper kiosks or refreshment and drinking halls experienced a new bloom. The Rhenish Office for Monument Preservation described the kiosk in an expert opinion as a "characteristic feature for the diversity and contrasts of the development in the government district and an expression of the 'provisional'".

In addition to its architectural-historical significance as a testimony to a type of small architecture typical of the time, the pavilion also has a special local historical significance as a former meeting and communication point for parliamentary officials.

For the reopening, the kiosk is to be restored to almost its original state, only the tobacco advertising will be removed.

"In no government district in the world is there such an unpretentious place for spontaneous communication without an agenda as in Bonn."
