Federal Police Headquarters South
The Federal Police Headquarters South , based in Munich, was one of five Federal Police headquarters .
history
On April 28, 1951, the Border Guard Command South (GSK South) was set up in Stadtsteinach (Upper Franconia) . Two months later, the Deggendorf , Amberg , Regensburg and Mannheim locations were moved into. In April 1952 the GSK Süd was relocated to Munich. When the Bundeswehr was founded in 1956, the GSK lost around half of its troop strength (around 2,200 remained with the Federal Border Guard ). The focus of the tasks for the next 30 years was on monitoring the border to the GDR. From 1972 onwards, the Federal Border Guard was also increasingly deployed domestically (mainly because of the attacks by the Red Army faction ). In 1992, due to the reorganization of the Federal Border Guard, it was merged with the Border Guard Administration and the Passport Control Office. This was accompanied by the renaming to Border Guard Presidium South and the assumption of new areas of responsibility (e.g. aviation security). After the railway police were dissolved, their duties were also taken over. Due to the renaming of the Federal Border Guard, the name had been Federal Police Headquarters South since 2005 . In March 2008, the tasks were taken over by the federal police headquarters in Stuttgart and Munich and the federal police headquarters.
Local jurisdiction
The Federal Police Headquarters South was responsible in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse (unless the Federal Police Headquarters Central is responsible there) and in Rhineland-Palatinate in the districts of Frankenthal, Speyer, Worms, Alzey-Worms and Ludwigshafen.
