The colorful mountain is 319.6  m high mountain in the Lippe Uplands between the villages Göstrup and Laßbruch in the town of Extertal in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . To the west it borders on the town of Lüdenhausen , Kalletal in the Lippe district. The mountain is mostly forested.

On the Buntenberg there are remains of a system of ramparts, which are now protected as a ground monument. The size of an area divided by stone and earth walls as well as terraces is approx. 24 ha, that of a specially demarcated hilltop 7 ha. The walls were first described in 1922 by the local researcher Heinrich Schwanold . The facility was surveyed in 1938 by local researchers Bröker and August Meier-Böke . Meier-Böke believed a prehistoric remains in the Wall Wallenburg be seen. In the opinion of Friedrich Hohenschwert , the former head of the Lippisches Landesmuseum , the ramparts do not show any sense of defense technology, but it cannot be ruled out that some of the ramparts are remnants of an old defensive system. An archaeological excavation has not taken place on the site to this day.
