Burbank is a municipality in Santa Clara County in the US state of California . The city has 4,926 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area covers an area of just over one square kilometer.
etymology
Burbank was named after the American botanist Luther Burbank , who died in the neighboring city of San José in 1926 . He earned numerous new breeds of fruit, vegetable and ornamental plants.
geography
Burbank is about eight miles south of the shores of San Francisco Bay. It is about 44 kilometers to the west to the Pacific coast of the USA.
The next larger cities are Santa Clara in the northwest and San José in the northeast.
Demographics
In 2010, the number of people living in Burbank more than doubled compared to 2000. While around 2,000 people still lived in the town in 2000, according to the 2010 census there were 4,926. The majority of the population are citizens of Latin American descent ( Latinos ), namely about half of the population. The number of Latinos has increased by almost ten percent in ten years. The proportion of whites fell below 40 percent. African Americans and other ethnic groups are minorities. The number of households was 1,877 according to the 2010 census.
