Holger Burckhart (born May 3, 1956 in Torshälla , Sweden ) is a German philosopher . He has been the rector of the University of Siegen since October 1, 2009 .

Life

After completing school in Cologne, Burckhart completed a teaching degree for secondary level I at the Pedagogical University of Rhineland and completed this with the first state examination in German and sport. This was followed by a teaching degree for secondary level II at the University of Cologne , which he completed with the first state examination for the subjects of German and philosophy. The doctorate at the University of Cologne took place in 1985, the habilitation followed in 1997 with the award of the venia legendi for philosophy with a thesis on "Discourse ethics - discourse anthropology - discourse pedagogy".

Before he took office in Siegen, Burckhart was Professor of Anthropology and Ethics in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Cologne, where he was also Vice-Rector for Teaching, Studies and Study Reform until the end of August 2009 . Since 2007 he has also been a board member of the Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs (AQAS), and since May 2008 chairman of the board.

Since 2012 he has been Vice President for Teaching and Studies, Teacher Training and Lifelong Learning at the German Rectors' Conference (HRK). Burckhart is a member of numerous professional societies, such as a board member of the European University Association (EUA) and a member of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Study Programs in Germany and a Policy Fellow of the Research Institute for the Future of Work IZA . He is a board member of the Hans-Jonas-Zentrum in Berlin and co-editor of the Critical Hans-Jonas Edition.

Burckhart's research focuses on the areas of general theory of science , transcendental philosophy , philosophy of language and the philosophical foundations of pedagogy, taking into account special educational issues.

Guest stays have taken him to the University of Bergen in Norway and to Japanese (Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka) and Chinese (Beijing, Jinan, Shanghai, Hong Kong) universities.

Holger Burckhart is married and has two children.
