Burdick is an unincorporated town in Morris County in the US -Bundesstaat Kansas .

history

The settlement was founded in 1880/81 under the name Linsdahl, later Linsdale, for cattle breeding by Swedes living there . Even before that, in the late 1870s, Russian immigrants tried unsuccessfully to farm in the area and left the area. In 1887 it was connected to the Strong City - Superior railway line of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and renamed Burdick after the name of a railway official's mistress. A post office also opened in August of the same year. Burdick is proud to have two churches and a clean cityscape despite the small size of the city.

geography

Burdick is in the Great Plains on the edge of the Flint Hills and is surrounded by large pastures.

population

Until the 1920s, the population grew steadily to over 200 people. Since then the population has decreased, mainly because of the increasingly unprofitable agriculture. In 1910, Burdick had around 225 residents. Nowadays there are still around 60.

Infrastructure

The village had a train station that was built in 1887. It also had a high school until 1957 and an elementary school until the 1960s . There are now two real streets and the post office in Burdick.
