Altentann Castle (State of Salzburg)
Altentann Castle

The location of the abandoned Altentann Castle is located in Henndorf am Wallersee in the state of Salzburg (at court 31). The property is under monument protection .

history

Altentann was once a moated castle owned by the von Tann family . These were ministerials of the archbishops of Salzburg since 1100 and had the task of acquiring the area around the Wallersee for the bishopric of Salzburg . Originally the castle and the associated Wallersee county were a fiefdom of the Bavarian dukes. In the center of their sphere of influence they had the castles Altentann and Lichtentann built. The Tanner were hereditary treasurers of the Archdiocese of Salzburg, representing the Dukes of Bavaria, until their demise . The Altentann nursing court covers the area south and west of the Wallersee around 1391.

Altentann Castle was mentioned for the first time in 1234 when the property was exchanged with St. Peter's Monastery . In 1326 the brothers Niclas and Eckart von Tann form a community of property, to which " Tann our hous with the court datz Höndorf " also belongs. In 1358 the "Tanner feud" began, which was based on the fact that the Salzburg nobility did not want to accept the transfer of fiefdom from the Bavarian dukes to the Salzburg archbishop and the loss of the bailiwick rights (jurisdiction). Despite various peace agreements, the armed conflicts never ended; the war was only ended with the extinction of the Tanners in 1396.

In a comparison in 1391 between Konrad, the Duke of Bavaria, the Kuchlers Hertnid and Eberhard and the Archbishop Pilgrim , Altentann Castle fell to the Archbishop of Salzburg with " Court, Vogtai, Vischwaid, Gejaid, team and all other Nuzz and Gilt ". The castle was first given to Nikola Pürnpeckh as a fief. In 1418 Wolfhart Uiberacker and his son were enfeoffed with the Altentann fortress and castle hat for life . They were followed in 1420 by Virgil Uiberacker and his sons Ernst and Wolfshart. From 1444 and 1462, the Uiberackers were hereditary owners of the Altentann care court until 1693/1803.

The chapel of St. John , supposedly consecrated in 1156, also belonged to the castle and was obtained from income from three Thalgau estates. This income was transferred to the palace chapels in Golling and Hellbrunn in 1764 , as the St. Johannes chapel had ceased to exist at that time.

After secularization , Altentann's property came to the Henndorf brewery ( Moser family ), which was then acquired by the Wehrle family in 1933 and Margo-Golfanlagen GmbH in 1989 .

Building history of Altentann

Altentann Castle was originally surrounded by a large moat ; it essentially consisted of a high tower, attached stables, a chapel , four traid boxes and a gate. She stood on an elliptical island about 16 m in diameter. A footbridge with two brick pillars led to the castle. The castle was surrounded by a curtain wall from 1560 . A yard and four other ponds belonged to the castle ; In addition, a mill, stables for horses, sheep and pigs, a plant garden and several fields, an oven and a bird barn are also mentioned .

The castle, inhabited by the Uiberackers, was badly damaged by fire in 1680; all wooden parts of the building were destroyed and only the vaults in the tower remained. The castle and outbuildings have been rebuilt. The castle was used as a granary. In 1701 the brick corridors were so dilapidated that they had to be demolished, but this did not happen. As a result (1709, 1761) several people were given permission to get stones from the castle building. In 1762, however, repairs were carried out again. Between 1770 and 1778, hewn stones from Altentann Castle were used to build bridges in the Neumarkt nursing court . In 1796 only a few rubble remained on a hill surrounded by fish ponds. The buildings that once belonged to the palace ( Zehentstadel , Stall, Maierstadel) were used by the Hofmeierei in Salzburg.

State on the island
Wall remains on the island

At the end of the 19th century only a small house surrounded by a nature park on the site of the castle is reported. It is said to have contained a statue of the Mother of God and a torso riding a dolphin. This condition remained until the construction of the Altentann golf course in 1988, today only the moat and the castle island are recognizable, on the island there are still sparse remains of walls and a (recent?) Well shaft.
