Frenzenhof Castle (North Rhine-Westphalia)
Frenzenhof Castle

The castle Frenzenhof even Frenzhof called, is a former moated castle in the district Gindorf of Grevenbroich a large district town in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The Niederungsburg lies west of the Gustorfer Mühle and the Erft on the eastern outskirts of Gindorf with the address Zur Wassermühle 1 . A railway line runs adjacent to the west today .

history

The moated castle probably dates from the 16th century. The outer bailey , probably a former manor house , was demolished in 1933 and replaced by a barn .

description

Today it houses a Multi-blade farmyard, but the appearance of a castle corresponds in northern Germany. Today's property is a massive, right-angled brick building with a two-storey residential wing with a gable roof in unbroken axes. A two-storey square gatehouse to the east with a hipped roof has a stone slab with the alliance coat of arms and the names of the "Raetz von Frenz" and "Selbach von Loe" inscriptions above the large entrance gate, which is framed by a sandstone portal and bevelled sandstone blocks .

The Raitz von Frentz family was a noble Rhenish family . The diamond coat of arms is a typical coat of arms of the Selbach noble families, which are known in many branches. This coat of arms probably goes back to or from the branch of Dieterich von Selbach called von Neunkirchen , who was married to Else von Loe (Lohe).

At the western corner there is a small square corner tower with a tent roof from the 15th century. On all buildings are simple (partly walled up today) loopholes admitted. The residential wing was changed in the 19th century. Since April 10, 1984, the complex has been registered as architectural monument no. 10 in the Grevenbroich monument list.
