Burkhard Schneeweiß (born May 16, 1931 in Potsdam ) is a former professor of paediatrics and a former politician of the GDR block party CDU . From 1976 to October 2, 1990 he was a member of the People's Chamber .

Life

After attending high school in 1950, the son of a teacher passed his Abitur at the humanistic Helmholtz high school in Potsdam. Schneeweiß then completed a degree in human medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin by 1956 . In 1956 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . At the same university he got his first position as an assistant doctor. Schneeweiß worked at the HU's Microbiological Institute until 1958. He then got a job as an assistant doctor at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Municipal Hospital in the Department of Surgery and Internal Medicine. In 1960, Schneeweiß moved to the Berlin Charité . There he began as an assistant doctor at the university children's clinic. From then on, pediatrics became his specialty. After his habilitation as a Dr. sc. med. Schneeweiß was appointed senior physician in 1965 with the subject of "the experimentally determinable antibacterial whooping cough immunity with special consideration of the humoral defense" . In 1973 he received a professorship for paediatrics at the Academy for Medical Training in the GDR and became chairman of the Central Expert Commission for Pediatrics in the GDR. At the same time, the change as chief physician to the children's clinic and children's polyclinic of the hospital in Friedrichshain Berlin was connected. Until 1996 he worked both as chief physician and as professor. After its associated retirement age with the entry retirement Snow White first went into retirement. In 1998, however, he accepted the call to the Ostseeklinik Kühlungsborn , where he practiced as chief physician in the pediatrics department until 2005, before saying goodbye at the age of 74.

Burkhard Schneeweiß is married, has six children and is a Protestant.

Scientific work

During his practical work as a clinician, Schneeweiß devoted himself in particular to infectious diseases in childhood and adolescence, the areas of allergology and immunology in childhood and diet-related diseases. He carried out scientific research mainly in the areas of infectiology , immunology, vaccination and development problems in childhood and adolescence. In addition, Schneeweiß worked from 1972 to 2002 as editor of the magazine "Pädiatrie und Grenzgebiete". Since his work was still highly regarded even after the political change, he was appointed to the board of the German Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases from 1996 to 1998. Since 2000, Schneeweiß has also been working as a curator for advanced training in the Bonn Association for Dietetics eV and in this function regularly gives lectures on nutritional medicine at the North Rhine Academy in Düsseldorf. In 2007 he was also appointed an extraordinary member of the Medicines Commission of the German Medical Association. Schneeweiß is the author of over 350 scientific publications. He is also the editor or co-editor of ten books. He has given over 500 scientific lectures at national and international congresses. Schneeweiß has been a member of the Leibniz Society for Science in Berlin since 2004 .

Schneeweiß joined the CDU block party in 1972. In 1976 he was elected as a member of the People's Chamber. His mandate was confirmed in the 8th and 9th electoral terms. In the 9th electoral term, from 1986, Schneeweiß also worked in the Committee on Health Care. For the People's Chamber elections on March 18, 1990, he was re-elected by his party. He ran for election in constituency 01 (Berlin) on the safe list position 4 and thus moved again as a member of the People's Chamber. Snow White was one of the few MPs who held a mandate in both the 9th and 10th electoral term.

From 1989 Schneeweiß headed the Unicef ​​committee of the GDR as president. He then became a member of the Unicef ​​Committee of Germany in Cologne until his retirement in 1995.
