Busuanga Airport ( Filipino : Paliparang Busuanga ; Hiligaynon : Hulugpaan sang Busuanga ), or also known as Francisco B. Reyes Airport ( IATA code : USU, ICAO code : RPVV), is an airport in Coron on the island of Busuanga in the province from Palawan , Philippines . The airport is categorized as a regional small airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

The airport has been named after Francisco B. Reyes since November 10, 2008. Reyes was Mayor of Coron from 1936 to 1939 and donated the property to the airport. The airport is surrounded by a cattle ranch.

History and expansion

Busuanga Airport is to be expanded in two stages. The first expansion phase, partly financed by a loan of three million dollars from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), began in March 2007. On November 17, 2008, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo opened a new terminal, an asphalt runway and upgrading other facilities .

The airport terminal was badly damaged by Typhoon Yolanda in November 2013. Reconstruction by the Coron city administration began immediately and was completed in October 2014. Traffic to and from Coron was severely affected by the closure of the airport, reducing the number of tourists by up to 75%.

The second expansion stage, with a planned volume of 4.1 billion Philippine Pesos , financed by the national government, aims to make the airport accessible to larger passenger planes and to enable night operations.
