The Buzuluk rises on the southwestern edge of the Urals in the Obschtschi Syrt ridge . From there it flows first in a westerly direction through the heavily agriculturally used steppe in the southwest of Orenburg. Shortly before the confluence with the Grachovka , it turns north.

A few kilometers further he takes the Bobrowka , and then flows in a northeasterly direction before he at Busuluk opens into the Samara.
