1st verse | Shifty shellshock |
refrain | Epic Mazur and Shifty Shellshock |
2nd stanza | Shifty shellshock |
3rd stanza | Epic Mazur |
The lyrics of the song are addressed to a woman who is compared to a butterfly for her beauty. So Shifty Shellshock raps that he was lost before he met this woman and she kept building him up. He raves about her sex appeal and wonders if this is all true. Sometimes he thinks he doesn't deserve her and thanks to her he appreciates life. Epic Mazur raps that he only knew happy endings from books before he met this woman. She practically saved his life and he couldn't imagine anything better than being with her. In contrast, he compares their relationship with that of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen , who both died within a short time after numerous conflicts.
"Come my lady, come-come my lady
You're my butterfly, sugar baby
Come my lady, you're my pretty baby
I'll make your legs shake, you make me go crazy"
production
Butterfly was produced by the American music producer Josh Abraham in collaboration with Crazy Town member Bret Mazur . They used a sample of the song Pretty Little Ditty by the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers from 1989.
Music video
The music video for Butterfly was shot by the director Honey.
It shows the band playing the song in a fantasy world surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies. The two front men Shifty Shellshock and Epic Mazur rap the text into the camera and swarm around two women who are growing butterfly wings at the end of the video.
