The Buttes is an almost 15 km long left tributary of the Areuse in the cantons of Vaud and Neuchâtel in Switzerland in the Jura .

The Buttes rises as Noiraigue in the hamlet of Mouille Mougnon, which belongs to Sainte-Croix VD . It flows in a northeastern direction and crosses the border with the canton of Neuchâtel. From there on, the river bears the name Buttes. Shortly afterwards, its largest tributary, the Dénériaz, flows into it from the right. The Buttes then flows through the village of Buttes and reaches Fleurier , where, after about 15 km from the right, it joins the Areuse , which is only 3 km long, but much richer in water .
