Byron Philip Jones (* 26. September 1992 in New Britain , Connecticut ) is an American American football poker players in the National Football League (NFL). He plays for the Miami Dolphins in the cornerback position .

college

Jones, who showed athletic talent at an early age and also excelled as a track and field athlete and basketball player in high school , attended the University of Connecticut and successfully played college football for their team, the Huskies . As a cornerback, occasionally also called up as a safety , he was able to set 225 tackles and prevent 16 passes in a total of 43 games . He also got eight interceptions and one touchdown .

NFL

Jones draws attention to himself with the Combine , as he was able to set a new world record in the standing long jump with 3.73 m (12ft 3in) . As a result, he was selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft as 27th overall by the Dallas Cowboys and received a four-year contract for 8.6 million US dollars and a signing bonus of 4.51 million.
He was already able to establish himself in his rookie season and was used in all 16 games, eleven times as a starter . Also in the following seasons he was a sure source of support in the defensive backfield and was used in every game, again either as cornerback or safety. In the 2017 season he even managed a touchdown against the Washington Redskins after an interception.
In 2018 he was called up exclusively as a cornerback and was appointed to the Pro Bowl for the first time for the performances shown in this position .

In March 2020, the Miami Dolphins signed Jones and made him the highest-paid cornerback in the league with the new five-year contract worth $ 82.5 million (of which 57 million guaranteed).
