Früh Brauhaus Cologne - Am Hof 12 (4608-10)
Früh Brauhaus Cologne - Am Hof 14 (4614-16)

The addition "Hofbräu" is based on the location of the company, because Peter Josef Früh , who comes from a Brühl brewery family, had a brewery with the in 1904 in the building of the former Central Theater or the Schützenliesel restaurant, Am Hof 12, in the immediate vicinity of Cologne Cathedral Name Cölner Hofbräu P. Josef Früh established. His daughter Netty married the brewer Jakob Immendorf (1885–1966), her sister Christel married his brother Peter Josef Immendorf (1888–1958). The brothers' grandfather founded the Immendorfsche Landbrauerei in Zündorf in 1865 , which later became the Hubertus brewery via the Union brewery . So two Cologne brewery dynasties were family united.

In terms of annual production, Früh is the third largest Kölsch brewery with 400,000 hectoliters. The Am Hof restaurant is particularly popular with tourists, not only because of its proximity to Cologne Cathedral, but also because the brewery tries to preserve old Cologne brewing traditions, e.g. B. Brewery atmosphere, tapping by Zappes, service by Köbesse , offering typical Cologne dishes.

Since 1987 the beer has no longer been brewed in-house, but in a brewery in Cologne-Feldkassel . The former brewery area and the former living quarters of the Früh family have been redesigned and restored. In the medieval vaults of the fermentation and storage cellars, new guest rooms and on the first floor the Hofbräustuben for more sophisticated demands were created. In addition to the brewery, the brewery also operates several breweries with typical Rhenish cuisine and, since 2005, the Eden Hotel Früh am Dom. In 1979 the company took over the traditional Severinstorburg restaurant and distillery, the A. Herrmann distillery owned by the Hermann couple, directly on the Severinstorburg ; there is the Früh em Veedel today; Furthermore, in 2009 the traditional Nippes restaurant Em Golde Kappes was taken over.

On April 2, 2014, the Bundeskartellamt imposed an order against Cölner Hofbräu Früh as well as several other breweries in Germany and the Verband Rheinisch-Westfälischer Brauereien e. V. Fines for prohibited price fixing for beer totaling 231.2 million euros.

The subsidiary of the Radeberger Group has had all bottled beers produced in the Feldkassel von Früh brewery since 2020 and all draft beers of the Sion, Gilden , Peters , Dom , Sester and Küppers Kölsch brands from 2021 .
