Life

Cai von Ahlefeldt was the son of the noble landowner Benedikt von Ahlefeldt (1546–1606) on Lehmkuhlen and his wife Ollegaard (1565–1619) born. from Rantzau .

Cai von Ahlefeldt acquired large estates, the noble estates Kollmar and Mehlbek near Glückstadt and Kampen in the Segeberg district . In 1626 he acquired the Bülk , Knoop and Seekamp estates in Wohld , Denmark ; In 1632 he sold all three goods to King Christian IV to build the Friedrichsort Fortress and to supply it. He also acquired the Eschelsmark , Ornum and Saxtorf estates on the Schlei .

His first wife was Margarethe (1605–1647) born. von Rantzau, whom he married in 1619. From this marriage came Burchard von Ahlefeldt (1634–1695). In 1648 he married his second wife Sophie (1620–1697), also a born von Rantzau. From this marriage came Margarethe Ollegard von Ahlefeldt (1650–1706).

Cai von Ahlefeldt was held in high regard by King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway , who entrusted him with numerous diplomatic missions. On October 4th, 1634 he received the Elephant Order from him on Christiansborg . Von Ahlefeldt was a general and war commissioner, holder of the Dannebrog order , archdeacon and thesaurarius of the diocese of Schleswig and played a major role in public life.
