Caitlin Cary

Caitlin Cary (born October 28, 1968 in Seville , Ohio , USA ) is an American musician ( violin , vocals ) and songwriter from Raleigh , North Carolina .

Life

Caitlin Cary comes from a musical family and has six older brothers. Her father worked as an instrument maker in his spare time . Cary began playing the violin and harpsichords made by her father at the age of six . She later earned a Masters in Creative Writing from North Carolina State University . There she met Ryan Adams and founded with him in 1994 the band Whiskeytown , which played Alternative Country . The band existed in changing line-ups until 1999.

After the band broke up, she began a solo career. In 2000 her debut EP Waltzie was released , which was recorded with Mike Dalty , with whom she had already worked at Whiskeytown, and was released with the support of Ryan Adams via Yep Roc from Chapel Hill . Musically, Cary stayed true to the alternative country genre.

After two years of working on it, her debut album While You Weren't Looking was released in 2002 , which is more focused on the folk area. the successor I'm Staying Out will be completed in just three months. appears in 2003 and shows the songwriter grown and more self-confident.

Caitlin Cary and Thad Cockrell (2006)

She played the album Seawater together with Tonya Lamm ( Hazeldine ) and Lynn Blakey ( Glory Fountain ) as Très Chicas . In 2005 she participated in Thad Cockrell's album Begonias . This collaboration earned the two of them a 2006 nomination for Best Duo or Best Group at the Americana Music Honors & Awards of the Americana Music Association . As a guest musician she is involved on albums by Alejandro Escovedo , Kenny Roby and Greg Hawks & the Tremblers .

Caitlin Cary is married to the musician Eric "Skillet" Gilmore , who used to play at Whiskeytown.

The newspaper The Washington Post compared the album of Cary and Cockrell as "a worthy successor of the duets of Johnny Cash and June Carter , George Jones and Tammy Wynette , as well as Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton ."

Mary Chapin Carpenter wrote on Cary's website that she was so enthusiastic about the album While You Weren't Looking that she bought 20 copies to give away to friends.
