Caleb Curtis

Caleb Wheeler Curtis (born December 28, 1985 in Ann Arbor ) is an American jazz musician ( alto saxophone , also tenor and soprano saxophone , composition ) of the postbop .

Live and act

Curtis earned a Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University , followed by a Masters in Music from William Paterson University . Since the 2010s he has mainly worked in the New York jazz scene; The first recordings were made in 2011 with the formation Manner Effect ( Abundance ). In the following years he played a. a. in the band Walking Distance (album of the same name on Sunnyside Records ), for which he also composed. He also played with Orrin Evans & The Captain Black Big Band (album on Smoke Sessions Records) and with Josh Lawrence .

His album Brothers (produced by Orrin Evans; starring Josh Lawrence, Eric Revis , Luques Curtis , Mark Whitfield Jr. and Seamus Blake ) received positive reviews in magazines and websites such as All About Jazz , Jazzwise and The New York Times . He also worked with the Josh Levinson Sextet ( Depend On Me ) Lafayette Harris, Jr. ( Hangin 'with the Big Boys ). Tom Lord recorded five recording sessions between 2011 and 2017.
