Callington ( Cornish : Kelliwik ) is a town and an administrative unit in the district of Cornwall (previously: Caradon ) in the county of Cornwall , England. Callington is approximately 60 km from Truro .

The community includes the hamlets of Bowling Green , Kelly Bray , Frogwell and Downgate .

history

The Celliwig is the mythical court of King Arthur . However, the New Cornish name of Callington was only created in the 19th century due to the derivation of the name. Iron Age settlement remains fueled this myth. The place is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Robert Willoughby, 1st Baron Willoughby de Broke (approx. 1452–1502), was initially lord of Callington. His remains are buried in St. Mary's Church. In the 19th century, silver (next to oliveite ) was mined in the Callington mines . Mining is stopped. Only granite is still broken in the area.
