Camillo Cardinal Caccia Dominioni (born February 7, 1877 in Milan , † November 12, 1946 in Rome ) was an Italian clergyman and cardinal curia of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Camillo Caccia Dominioni studied in the seminary of Milan before attending the Pontifical Gregorian University , where he became a Doctor of Canon Law , and at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy , where he graduated in 1898. He was ordained a priest on September 23, 1899 by the Archbishop of Milan , Cardinal Andrea Carlo Ferrari . Caccia finished his studies in 1902, in 1903 he was appointed canon coadjutor of St. Peter's Basilica and did pastoral work in Rome until 1921.

On September 24, 1914 Caccia was raised to the rank of monsignor and on June 16, 1921 by Pope Benedict XV. appointed prefect of the papal house , the papal steward. On June 27, 1921, he was appointed Apostolic Protonotary . After the death of Pope Benedict on January 22, 1922, Dominioni, like all other important Vatican officials, automatically lost his position during the Sedis vacancy . He was later appointed Prefect of the Papal House of Pope Pius XI. Confirmed on February 7th and received the dignity of Canon of St. Peter's Basilica on February 14th, 1924. Caccia was a protégé of Pius XI. In his last hours he was in his bedroom.

In the consistory on December 16, 1935 Pius XI. Caccia to cardinal deacon with the title deaconry Santa Maria in Domnica . He was one of the cardinals in the 1939 conclave that Pius XII. chose. Due to his position as cardinal protodeacon (senior cardinal deacon), Dominioni announced the election of Pius XII. and on March 12, 1939, he crowned him.

The cardinal died of heart disease at the age of 69. He is buried in the crypt of the Basilica of Santi Ambrogio e Carlo .
