The provincial youth choir CantAnima is the provincial youth choir of the Austrian state of Styria . CantAnima was founded in 2004 by the Styrian Singers' Association as a project choir to give young people between the ages of 16 and 26 the opportunity to work on rarely performed pieces at a high level. CantAnima was directed from the founding of the choir until 2010 by Franz M. Herzog (overall artistic direction) and Miriam Ahrer (assistant). In the following three years Nataliya Lukina (2011–2012) and Sebastian Meixner (2013) took over the assistance. In 2014 Franz M. Herzog handed over the overall management to Sebastian Meixner .

repertoire
The fixed eight-part division and the practiced preparatory study enable the choir to work out a larger program at a high level in short and intensive rehearsal phases. The program changes annually and consists of larger coherent works (Misa Tango, Missa Pater Noster, Suite de Lorca, Missa Afro-Brasileira) as well as individual pieces or excerpts from larger works. Most composers from the 20th and 21st centuries such as Eric Whitacre , Rudolf Mauersberger , Einojuhani Rautavaara , Francis Poulenc , Claude Debussy , Franz M. Herzog or Moses Hogan predominate in the selection . Works by older masters such as Claudio Monteverdi , Jacobus Gallus or Antonio Lotti are performed less often .
