The Cardinal Peak is the highest peak of the Chelan Mountains , a substring of the Cascade Range in the State of Washington . It is located in the Wenatchee National Forest at the upper catchment area of the Entiat River in Chelan County . The streams to the west and north of the mountain flow into Lake Chelan . Cardinal Peak is less than 5 mi (8 km) from the lake and rises 7,500 ft (about 2,300 m) above lake level. With an altitude of 8,595 ft (2,620 m) it is ranked 49th in the list of the highest mountains in Washington. Its 2,070 ft (631 m) notch height makes it 132nd in the state.

The pluton of Cardinal Peak consists mainly of granodiorite and hornblende and quartz- containing diorites .

Cardinal Peak was named by Albert H. Sylvester because it is the highest mountain in the region.
