Carl-Axel Söderström

Carl-Axel Söderström (born December 23, 1893 in Korsnäs , Kopparbergs län ; † November 27, 1976 in Nyköping ) was a Swedish photographer , cameraman and laboratory manager .

Life

Söderström was trained at the Stockholm branch of Pathé Frères .

From 1917 to 1918 he was employed by Christiania Film Co and from 1919 to 1920 as a photographer for the Scandinavian Film Center . He then worked in the Swedish film industry.

On November 25, 1923 in Tyska kyrkan (Stockholm) Söderström married Gertrud Martha Vahl. Martha was the daughter of a German confectioner, born in Berlin on February 5, 1897 , who had emigrated to Sweden with his wife and six children in 1899.

He took from 1927-1929 under Clärenore Stinnes in a circumnavigation of the world in a car, an Adler Standard 6 , as a photographer and cameraman. He also documented the journey in a book entitled 5,000 mil i bil: Två år vid ratten på färd jorden runt ( 5000 miles in the car - two years at the wheel on a trip around the world ). In Germany, large parts of his photographs appeared in the diary-like work of Söderström's Photo-Tagebuch in 1981 . A woman's first car trip around the world .

After the trip he divorced his first wife Martha and married Clärenore Stinnes in December 1930. The two had three children of their own and had several foster children. Martha Söderström died in 1985 with no offspring.

Movies

The documentary film Fräulein Stinnes drives around the world , made in 2008 and 2009, is composed of the historical film recordings of Söderström and newly filmed scenes from both of them on the circumnavigation of the world.

The 53-minute film documentary Around the World by Car - Clärenore's adventures by Kirsten Hoehne, Anette Heinrich / Anja Kindler, Annika Seemann and Saskia Weisheit (produced by Spiegel-TV and WDR ) in 2015 included several new interviews with children, nieces and nephews von Stinnes and the original silent film strips from Söderström, which were set to music in Europe, mainly based on the work of C. Stinnes and Michael Kuball, The woman who drove around the world , from 1983/86. She shows many pictures with him.
