Carl Joseph Barzilauskas (* 19th March 1951 in Waterbury , Connecticut ) is a former American American football poker players. He played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) with the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers . Carl Barzilauskas is the nephew of Fritz Barzilauskas , who played American football for the New York Giants , among others .

Player career

College career

Carl Barzilauskas attended high school in his hometown and already played American football at school. Because of his athletic achievements, he was elected to the New England national team. From 1970 studied at the University of Indiana and played for the Indiana Hoosiers as a defensive tackle. In 1972 and 1973 he was voted All-American . In 1973 he played under coach Weeb Ewbank in the Senior Bowl on a college selection team . He played his final year with a broken foot. His college awarded him all three years of play.

Player career

Barzilauskas was drafted sixth in the first round of the New York Jets in 1974 . In the Jets he played on the defensive line until 1977 . In 1978 Barzilauskas moved to the Green Bay Packers supervised by Bart Starr . Neither the Jets nor the Packers managed to make Carl Barzilauskas into the play-offs . Due to a neck injury, he had to end his career in 1980.

After the career

Carl Barzilauskas became a successful businessman after his career. He owns two restaurants in Indianapolis and Bloomington , among others . He also runs a medical supply and brokerage office in Bloomington. Barzilauskas is chairman of the Central Indiana Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF). The NFF promotes young talent and operates the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend , Indiana. Barzilauskas is also president of the Indiana National Football League Players Association , the union of Indiana professional football players .

Honors

Carl Barzilauskas is a member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame and received the Joe Boland Award in 2000 . The prize is given to people who have made a special contribution to promoting young people in sport.
