Carl Bianga

Carl Bianga (* 1930 in Danzig ; † August 7, 2015 in Hamburg-Rissen ) was a German graphic artist, draftsman and poet. With his hand-colored etchings from 1968 to 1974 he made an important contribution to German Pop Art .

Life

From 1951 to 1960 Bianga studied at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin under Hans Jaenisch , Max Kaus , and Wolf Hoffmann , whose master class he was in the etching class. Between 1958 and 1960 he received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . Then, between 1961 and 1968, Bianga received funding from the city of Berlin's work grant. He lived in Berlin until 1972 and then moved to Hamburg, where he worked until his death.

His sister was the artist Elisabeth Axmann (* 1934).
